Ready to get along with this case study ? I am !

Meet Yannis

Yannis is the CEO of Incomparable, a SaaS development agency. Recently, he bootstrapped BestBoilerPlateEverEverEver, reaching hundreds of dollars in revenue every month, with over 500 visitors and 1,400 views on the first day.

The Start of Something New

It all began when Yannis and I met for a quick call. He wanted my feedback on his idea before diving in. Since I was already using a boilerplate, I knew it could be a valuable resource.

He had two options:

  • Start coding

  • Research potential competitors

Yannis chose the second option. He felt that diving into a product without proper validation and gathering feedback would be a mistake. He also saw competition as a positive sign, saying, “If there’s no competition, maybe no one is interested.” This approach allowed him to learn from existing products and create an “unfair” advantage.

Competitor Analysis and a Unique Feature

After collecting a list of competitors, Yannis noticed that most boilerplate directories were quite similar but lacked one key feature: a ranking and upvoting system. This sparked an idea—users would want to know which boilerplate was most popular within the community to make informed purchases.

Outreach to Boilerplate Creators

Yannis began reaching out to creators of boilerplates, asking if they’d be interested in having their products featured on his platform. To increase his chances of success, he scraped boilerplate owner contacts from competitors' directories and sent them a friendly, straightforward message:

“Dude, I’m going to make a list of the best boilerplates in the world, and I suggest you be listed on it. I assure you it will bring good traffic. Are you interested?”

He even sent each creator a personalized photo of himself holding a paper with their nickname on it!

This unique approach brought in a lot of positive feedback. Out of 36 messages, 22 creators agreed to list their boilerplates, giving Yannis a 61% conversion rate! Plus, five creators offered exclusive coupons for his platform.

Building and Launching the Platform

Yannis continued seeking feedback as he worked on mockups and designs, refining them based on boilerplate creators’ input. Once he felt confident, he started coding, finishing the project in just two days with the help of boilerplates and his expertise.

Upon launching, he reached out to all the creators, reminding them to encourage their followers to upvote their boilerplates. This helped drive traffic, resulting in over 500 visitors and 2,000 views within 24 hours.

Scaling Strategies

To keep the momentum going, Yannis focused on:

  • Programmatic SEO

  • Spreading the word on social media

  • Collecting feedback to grow based on user needs

He programmatically generated blog pages and promoted them across social media.

And he also installed a feedback widget to collect feedback.
