If you are in SaaS, you probably heard that you shouldn’t give away your product for free.

It’s mainly true, but it can also affect you.

If you’re product has a lot of big competitors, you need to know why your customers are switching from them to your tool right ?

Well, to do that, you need to give free access. You need people to be able to try your tool for free so you can get feedback and maybe convert them later .

And, I was doing a mistake, when I launched the v3 of https://tryfeedbackloop.com It didn’t go as I planned. Only some sign ups from my email list.

But, do you know why ? Well, people need to know the product before upgrading.

My friend Mike gave me an advice : Add a little : No credit card required.

I thought, it’s not possible, it won’t change anything will it ?

Well, it did, I went from 10 to 23 sign ups right away.

The question is, why ? Well, a credit card required can be great at scale.

But at first, people don’t know you, they don’t know your product, they don’t trust you. And it’s normal.

You also wouldn’t trust a new website requiring your credit card will you ?

So, this was a little hack I had to share.
