How loom pivoted twice before succeeding ?

Let's take a look on the crucial pivots of loom.

WhyWeSell

Hello there, It’s Mehdi

On this newsletter, we’ll talk about how Loom pivoted lot of times before becoming what it is today.

Ready ?

Let’s do it 👇

Loom is one of the most popular, quick to use screen recorders.

It’s used by so many people, solopreneurs, youtubers, developers . . .

All of that thanks to it’s powerful and yet very easy to use Screen recording features, collaboration, but also thanks to their marketing strategies.

But did you know that before loom becomes what it is today, they actually did pivot lot of times, pivots that were crucial to allow them to grow and scale.

In 2015, openTest was launched as a Usability testing tool.

But they actually struggled to reach users and onboard them.

Later, in 2016, they rebranded into OpenVid and they kept the main feature from OpenTest which is recording screen.

Over that pivot, they quickly started gaining users.

They had one issue thought, most users didn’t find this tool as something that was crucial to use every time and with that, not a real pain killer, mostly a vitamin product, and as founders, we all hate building that type of tools right ?

So, how did they actually solve that ? Well, they listened to their users.

They actually learnt that their users saw a use case which is to make communication between teams and co-workers easier.

And with that, OpenVid pivoted to what we know today as Loom.
